#MetallicaGivesBack to Two Local Organizations in Blacksburg

MAY 8, 2025

Metallica’s stop in Blacksburg allowed AWMH the opportunity to give back within that community. Once again, Metallica and AWMH have chosen local nonprofit organizations to receive grants to support the community M72 visits in the areas of food insecurity and critical local services. Receiving funds in Blacksburg are Feeding Southwest Virginia and New River Family Shelter

Feeding Southwest Virginia is the largest supplier of charitable food assistance in Southwest Virginia. It provides millions of pounds of nourishing food to our neighbors in need with its network of over 400 feeding programs and the support of generous donors and volunteers. Though a member of Feeding America (national) and the Federation of Virginia Food Banks (state), its impact stays local, distributing nearly 19 million pounds of food annually in its region. Along with our donation, Carhartt is also contributing to the food bank, making the total grant $45,000.

Special thanks to our Metallica Family volunteers who donated their time for a shift at Feeding Southwest Virginia. During their shift, they packed 4,700 lbs. of boxes, including food and other items, and provided 3,700 meals!  Additional thanks to our longtime partners at Carhartt for keeping them cozy and stylish in these exclusive M72 x AWMH Brite Orange Knit Cuffed Beanies.

Since 1989, New River Family Shelter has provided emergency housing and support to local families who find themselves in a housing crisis. With multiple home sites, the organization increases accessibility to safe and private housing, creating a secure and nurturing environment for children. NRFS partners with the local community, including volunteers, local government, and churches, to remove the stigma of homelessness and ultimately end long-term family homelessness in its community. With a respectful and compassionate approach, NRSF focuses on keeping the entire family together, connecting clients to local support programs, and empowering them to achieve confidence and self-sufficiency. New River Family Shelter is receiving $20,000.
