Rachel - West Georgia Technical College
Having previously studied music, Rachel found herself seeking a hands-on, creative trade during the pandemic. Welding quickly captured her interest, offering the perfect blend of challenge, artistry, and physical engagement.
Rachel has thrived in this career change, mastering advanced techniques at West Georgia Technical College and during her internship at Southeastern Hose Inc., which led to a full-time job offer, making her the company’s first female welder. She even competed in the 2025 SkillsUSA Georgia State Leadership and Skills Conference in welding sculpture!
Rachel takes immense pride in her journey, especially in rediscovering a sense of purpose and proving her capabilities in a male-dominated field. She shared that the Metallica Scholars Initiative at West Georgia Technical College has been instrumental in opening doors, building confidence, and shaping her future.
